FISHERMEN TALK ABOUT HARASSMENT BY DLNR

Kaena Point

For the past three years fishermen claim they have been harassed by DLNR officers at Kaena Point and other shorline fishing spots around Hawaii.  Rules have been implemented that prohibit fishermen from having  "camping gear" in their possession between 6pm and 6am.    This includes blankets, pillows, coolers, and other gear that makes night fishing more comfortable and protect families from the elements.  Even if gear is stored back in their car after 6pm, they may  get a ticket.   And, don't you dare fall asleep while fishing!

Hundreds of tickets have been issued, most of which have been thrown out in court.  But, the DLNR and Laura Thielen have turned a deaf ear to the fishermen's request for relief from this oppresive and unfair law, and their unecessary harrassment by DLNR officers.

Watch Pathways to Paradise  on Saturday, January 2, 4:30 PM,  on O'lelo, Channel 49,  to see interviews with fishermen about this subject.   You can also see the show here (LINK)
