          January 3, 2016, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Carroll explains why we should be worried about the United States Coast Guard former Voice of America site in Maili contaminated by PCBs, and the homes built next to the site.  Carroll reads a letter from the Hawaii State Department of Health to the United States Coast Guard, dated June 24, 2014, stating the property should be categorized for high priority cleanup in 2015 because five homes immediately abut the contaminated site (see attached).

The Coast Guard is responsible for cleaning up the property.  Residents say approximately  a year ago they built a fence around the contaminated site and posted signs saying it was government property.    However, it is reported some of the homeowners were told by government officials and contractors the fence was built to protect a Heiau because people were taking the rocks to build rock walls.  There is no Heiau.   The line of rocks you see in the picture below is part of a foundation for old railroad tracks. Also, note a portion of the new fence that surrounds the contaminated property.

To help property owners in the area, and dispel some of the erroneous information being provided to the homeowners, we are posting a series of emails discussing the property.  The emails were obtained via a Uniform Information Practices Act (UIPA or Sunshine Law)  request.    It is reported a Navy public relations liason with the Navy said the property was cleaned up years ago and there is no problem.  The attached emails will tell you what is really going on.
