a beautiful day in Waikiki, Hawaii

Carroll's guests are Eric Gill and Lauren Ballesteros from the Local 5 hotel workers union. They discuss participation in the national "Local 5 Hotel Workers Rising"  campaign, about ordinary working people pushing back and holding Wall Street accountable.

Our major hotels are owned by big corporations, including Goldman Sachs. Wall Street got its bailout and the economy is on the rebound, but now they’re standing in the way of  economic recovery for real working families. How? The work is there, but not the jobs. Hotel occupancy is up, but now fewer workers are working harder for less.

The Waikiki Regency Hyatt is leading the way nationally in taking unfair advantage of a down economy and trying to squeeze workers into a permanent recession by locking them into concession contracts.  They will not even talk to the union until the end of August.

The Hyatt Regency is owned by the Pritzker Family, one of the wealthiest
    in the world
